Dear co-crafters, :)

I need the help of all the mommys out there! A friend of mine has given birth and I would love to make a diaper bag for her (and if I like the result, perhaps also make some for my shop).
But as I haven't got any children (only three bunnies, which sometimes seem to make as much work as children but are less comprehensive), I have absolutely no clue what a good diaper bag needs!

Thus, I would be happy to receive some ideas on
- size
- inside pockets - how many, which size? Any "special ones", e.g. with a closure?
- anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Liebe Mit-Kreativen, :)

Tsseee cannot believe it, when I go out shopping or look out of the window, I see moms everywhere - it is just that I don't know any of them :)

I know... same here. When I saw your post I thought you would be swamped with answers! Maybe they are still to arrive here?!

Obviously... :)

Or maybe we're just slow :) My little one is 5 now...but for us, pockets were huge. Lost of pockets, a few with closures, at least one big enough for a bottle/sippy cup. Outside pockets for things you'll need in a pinch - snacks, binky, etc. A HUGE factor for us in choosing one was the ability to wear it, as opposed to carrying it. We ended up lucking out and finding a Gap brand backpack on clearance that was perfect, and was actually a sling bag that left both hands free. If you can make it to be something she can just put on and not have to carry, I'd guess that'll go over well. And of course, as with many moms and dad, the more modern and less 'cutesy' the better, as far as fabrics go.

Oh, and easy to clean! Spills and burp ups happen...a lot :)

I hope this helps!

Thanks, that really helps a lot! So for putting on, I think I could use as a working basis my messenger bags, just make it bigger and with more inside and some outside pockets.

I am still asking myself about the material for the inside... don't think that my fabric suppliers have anything with an easy to clean surface :(

Oh, I wouldn't trouble yourself with the fabric...I'm sorry, my comment was misleading I think. I was referring more to the diaper bags that are silk or satin lined, etc...which is not great for those, because moisture wreaks havoc with them. I've also seen velvet ones, etc...it just doesn't seem practical to me, but I'm sure others would use them! I think the phrase "easy care" would have been more appropriate...sorry!!

Hmmm no no, I think myself that it would be better if it was something with a water-repellent surface - just imagining a bottle isn't closed correctly or whatever... would make a huuuuge mess....!

Also meine Jüngste ist jetzt schon acht Jahre, also eine halbe Ewigkeit her!

Was meinst Du denn, welche Maße da (grob) ausreichend wären?
